Our next best thing…
So now you know that shoestrings is all about ‘sharing souls and tying communities together’ and aimed at tying stroke rehabilitation communities together Australia-wide, you probably want to know what is ‘our next best thing’…

We are really wanting to make an EXTRAORDINARY difference in stroke rehabilitation communities and all those that experience the rehab ride- whether they be doctors, friends or family members of those who have experienced stroke, cleaners in rehabilitation hospitals, the stroke survivors themselves- pretty much anyone who has been there to support or interact with somebody in a stroke community!
We have an aim to get as many Australians as possible on board this project- whoever you are- we want you to be a part of our nation’s shoestring! So, to do this, Shoestrings is putting on a massive photography exhibition which will raise an awareness for Stroke, give people in this community to share their experiences and generate support for each other (making them ‘Shoestring’ tight!) and raise funds for the National Stroke Foundation! This will be an Australia-wide venture in October 2007 as we have received entries from all over Australia. We will have an exhibition in Melbourne (see Events page)! It will involve all in stroke communities submitting a photograph of themselves with a pair of their shoes (or just their shoes if they don’t want to be photographed!) and a short summary about their experience & how they’ve contributed/ what they’ve learnt, and sharing all these extraordinary stories and images in one brilliant exhibition! All the images will be in black and white but the shoes will be in all different colours- pretty spectacular if you have hundreds of them in the one space!

1. The Shoestrings Exhibition provides a huge opportunity for many rehabilitation patients, their hospitals, their families, friends and therapists to simply ‘share’. Throughout Emma’s journey, she has discovered how very much one can get from talking through ones experience. The more you share, the less alone you feel. Yes, through sharing you become Shoestring tight.
